Summary[ | ]

This guide will provide instructions and steps for maximum production of resources without having to collect or farm them (where possible).

The objective is to obtain the maximum types and amounts of resources using only a Portable Refiner, Medium Refiner, Large Refiner.

Some of these recipes use three ingredients, so a large refiner is required in most cases, but having another one and two input refiners nearby will help speed up some processes.

Starting Point[ | ]

A basic collection of these resources is required to get started:

  • Oxygen
  • Nitrogen
  • Di-hydrogen
  • Pugneum

In addition, it is required to have at least 2 units each of Copper, Cadmium, Emeril and Indium to use the Chromatic Metal multiplication process.

Once the process is set up, the only ongoing resources required are a fresh supply of oxygen and nitrogen.

Di-Hydrogen Cycling[ | ]

Refining Multiplication of Resources (3)

Basic Principle: 30 Di-Hydrogen can be refined to make 1 Di-hydrogen Jelly. One Di-Hydrogen Jelly refines to 40 Di-Hydrogen.

Keep cycling this to make as much as you need, but make sure to always keep a supply of Di-Hydrogen Jelly in storage to avoid running out.

An alternate starting point if do not have any Di-Hydrogen is to use Tritium from asteroids instead. On the other hand, Di-Hydrogen can be readily found on every planet.

Salt Cycling[ | ]

Refining Multiplication of Resources (4)

Basic Principle: 2 salt makes 1 chlorine. Add 2 oxygen to 1 chlorine to get 6 chlorine. 1 Chlorine makes 2 salt. As a result adding oxygen will allow infinite multiplication of salt and chlorine.

Put equal amounts of Di-Hydrogen and Oxygen into a refiner to make salt.

Carbon Multiplication[ | ]

Refining Multiplication of Resources (5)

Basic Principles: 2 Carbon makes 1 Condensed Carbon (reversible). 1 Condensed Carbon + 2 Oxygen makes 6 Condensed Carbon

Make some carbon by refining oxygen. Or just harvest carbon from Standing Planters.

Ammonia/Fungal Mould[ | ]

Refining Multiplication of Resources (6)

Basic Principles: Di-Hydrogen and Nitrogen can be refined to make Ammonia.

Then 2 Ammonia + 1 Oxygen makes Fungal Mould. Additionally, once you have at least one Fungal Mould, 1 Fungal Mould + 1 Ammonia makes 2 Fungal Mould.

Oxygen Multiplication[ | ]

Basic Principles: 1 Salt + 1 Nitrogen produce 1 Kelp Sac. Kelp Sac, Condensed Carbon and Fungal Mould make 10 Oxygen.

(In practice, any plant can be used in place in Fungal Mould, but Fungal Mould is easy to create using the Ammonia-Fungal Mould production cycle).

Step 1: 1 Salt and 1 Nitrogen make 1 Kelp Sac

Step 2: Fungal Mould, Kelp Sac and Condensed Carbon make 10 Oxygen.

It's a bit of a drawn out process, but if you haven't got an infinite supply of Oxygen, you can turn 5 Oxygen, 3 Nitrogen, 1 Carbon and 3 Di-Hydrogen into 10 Oxygen to top up your supplies.

Alternate solutions are to have a Oxygen Harvester nearby and feed it with your supplies of Carbon or Condensed Carbon, or to set up Gas Extractors at an Oxygen hotspot.

Gas Cycling[ | ]

Refining Multiplication of Resources (10)

Basic Principle: Add Oxygen to Nitrogen, Sulphurine or Radon to convert one gas into another in an endless cycle.

There are three atmospheric gases in No Man's Sky: Nitrogen, Sulphurine and Radon.

It is not possible to create any of these from other elements in refiners. The gases can usually only be harvested by Atmospheric Harvesters or Gas Extractors on biome-specific planets. With this solution, if one type of gas is available, it is possible to convert it into the other types by adding oxygen in the cycle.

Using this approach it is possible to build a base on your favorite type of world and you will not need leave the planet to collect the other gases.

Mordite and Faecium[ | ]

Refining Multiplication of Resources (11)

Basic Principles: Make Mordite from Di-Hydrogen and Condensed Carbon. Then add more Condensed Carbon to produce 4 times as much Faecium.

Mordite can also be created by combining Nitrogen with Di-Hydrogen. Similarly, add Condensed Carbon to the produced Mordite to produce 4 times as much Faecium.

Infinitely multiply Faecium by adding oxygen, to produce 3 times the amount of Faecium. Then, it is possible convert the 3 Faecium back to 2 Mordite if needed to restart the process.

Gold Creation[ | ]

Refining Multiplication of Resources (12)

Pugneum can be refined from Atlantideum at a ratio of 1:2, and can also be obtained from:

  • destroying sentinels
  • purchasing from Space stations, Galactic Trade Terminals or other NPC ship traders.

Basic principle: refine 1 Faecium and 1 Pugneum to create 2 Gold.

Silver and Gold[ | ]

Before multiplying stocks of Gold, Silver and Platinum, a supply of Uranium and Pure Ferrite is required.

Di-Hydrogen and Radon for Uranium[ | ]

Refining Multiplication of Resources (13)

Refine Di-Hydrogen and Radon into Uranium.

This may not be the most efficient way to make Uranium (see later), but this is a method using the materials produced so far.

Pure Ferrite Refining[ | ]

Refining Multiplication of Resources (14)

Refine Di-Hydrogen and Nitrogen into Ammonia, then refine Ammonia into Ferrite Dust. Following this, refine 2 Ferrite Dust into 1 Pure Ferrite.

There will be other ways of building up Pure Ferrite reserves below.

Gold Cycling[ | ]

Refining Multiplication of Resources (15)

Basic principles: 10 Gold, 30 Uranium and 60 Pure Ferrite can be refined into Lemmium. Lemmium can be refined into 125 Gold.

By using the earlier created Uranium and Pure Ferrite reserves, it is possible to start multiplying Gold reserves.

Silver Cycling[ | ]

Refining Multiplication of Resources (16)

The first step is to create Pyrite by combining Oxygen with Gold.

The second step is to make Dirty Bronze by refining Pyrite with Gold and Pure Ferrite

Refining Multiplication of Resources (17)

The third step is refine Dirty Bronze to make Silver. 1 Dirty Bronze produces 250 Silver.

It is possible to cycle Silver and Gold around to multiply stocks in this way, or combine this with the next step to create infinite supplies of Pure Ferrite and Magnetised Ferrite to make the process even more efficient.

Ferrite and Magnetised Ferrite[ | ]

The first step is to refine Gold and Silver into Platinum.

The second step is to refine Platinum and Oxygen to make 10 Magnetised Ferrite.

Once there is a supply of Magnetised Ferrite, it can be readily refined to convert it into Pure Ferrite and back again. Magnetised Ferrite is a more convenient storage medium, because it takes up half as much space as Pure Ferrite.

If Ferrite Dust is needed for Metal Plates, 1 Oxygen + 1 Pure Ferrite => 2 Rusted metal, 1 Rusted Metal => 2 Ferrite Dust

Note that Magnetised Ferrite can also be refined from Pure Ferrite and Condensed Carbon at a ratio of 2:3. While this process is less efficient compared to refining Platinum and Oxygen, only a supply of Oxygen is needed for multiplying the Condensed Carbon.

Also note, that this is a much more efficient way to make Pure Ferrite compared to making it via Ferrite Dust. Also using Platinum instead of Gold to produce Lemmium or Dirty Bronze is more efficient still.

Sodium Nitrate Cycling[ | ]

Refining Multiplication of Resources (20)

Basic principles: Pure Ferrite and Nitrogen can be refined to make Sodium Nitrate.

The next step is to refine Oxygen with Sodium Nitrate to multiply the Sodium Nitrate.

Sodium Nitrate can be refined to make Sodium as needed, then converted back to Sodium Nitrate for storage or multiplication.

Cobalt Cycling[ | ]

Refining Multiplication of Resources (21)

it is first necessary to refine Di-Hydrogen and Condensed Carbon into Mordite. Then refine Mordite with Sodium Nitrate to Make Marrow Bulb. Next, add Oxygen to Marrow Bulb to make Ionised Cobalt.

Ionised Cobalt can be multiplied with Oxygen, or converted to Cobalt. Adding 2 Oxygen to Ionised Cobalt provides 6 times as much Ionised Cobalt.

Ionised Cobalt can be converted to twice as much Cobalt, then converted back again for storage or multiplication as needed.

Biome-Dependent Resources[ | ]

Refining Multiplication of Resources (22)

Each of the biome-dependent resources can be converted into another at a ratio of 2:1 with the addition of Ferrite Dust or Pure Ferrite. This represents another cycle of resources, but results in the loss half of the resource stack each time it is cycled.

Listed in the infographic is the most efficient way to make each of the resources. This works for all of them except Phosphorus. The only way to make this resource is by refining it from Dioxite or Solanium (Solanium can be refined from Di-hydrogen and Sulphurine).

Any of these resources can be refined into Ferrite Dust at a ratio of 1:1.

There are other ways to make Ferrite Dust (such as refining rust), but a resource deposit mine on any planet will yield one or another of these biome-dependent resources, which can then convert to Ferrite Dust.

Biome-Specific Plants and Resources[ | ]

Refining Multiplication of Resources (23)

Each biome type has an associated resource, and a type of plant which can grow there in the wild.

These resources and plants are linked in refining processes also. The addition of Oxygen to any of the resources creates the associated plant. The addition of Salt to each plant refines to give the starting resource. However, each time this process is used, it will result in the loss of half of the resource. Using the plant itself as a catalyst can allow a 1:1 conversion from the associated resource (e.g. 1 Ammonia + 1 Fungal Mould makes 2 Fungal Mould), although there is no way to convert with 1:1 efficiency in the other direction.

Solanium is unique in that it can also be refined from 1 Di-hydrogen and 1 Sulphurine.

Chromatic Metal[ | ]

Refining Multiplication of Resources (24)

The final process is how to make Chromatic Metal, then use it to multiply supplies of the coloured metals Copper, Cadmium, Emeril and Indium.

Any of these coloured metals, when added to Silver and Gold, will refine to Chromatic Metal. The more valuable the coloured metal used, the more Chromatic Metal that will result.

There is no way to create these coloured metals from base materials but starting with only a small amount, it is possible to infinitely multiply supplies using this refining process.

Chromatic Metal added to any coloured metal will refine to double the amount of coloured metal.

This process will ensure infinite supplies of Copper, Cadmium, Emeril and Indium: so long as the start is with a miniumum of 2 units of each, it is possible infinitely multiply these metals.

Activated Resources[ | ]

The only resources that are not known to created by refining are:

  • Activated Copper
  • Activated Cadmium
  • Activated Emeril
  • Activated Indium
